This work is based on the story of the soldier and the princess from the film Cinema Paradiso. Long ago a poor soldier fell in love with a beautiful princess. He had nothing to offer her; but managed to meet her and declare his love. The princess was very taken by his emotional plea; and told him that if he were to wait under her balcony for one hundred days and nights; she would be his. Waiting patiently; the soldier endured all manner of torment from weather; wildlife and starvation. Finally on the next-to-last night; the soldier took up his chair and disappeared. The music evokes the atmosphere of the poignant story; and the work is divided into three different movements. Dur: 5:00
